John Charles Carter (Evanston Illinois VS, 4 oktober 1924), beter bekend onder zijn artiestennaam Charlton Heston is een Amerikaans filmacteur, en een belangrijk voorman van de Amerikaanse National Rifle Association, die pleit voor het grondrecht wapens te mogen dragen.

Heston’s carrière kreeg een enorme impuls met zijn hoofdrol als Judah Ben-Hur in de speelfilm Ben-Hur uit 1959. Hij had toen al zo’n 10 jaar acteerervaring, en al 20 rollen op zijn naam staan. Hij speelde meerdere keren in historische drama’s, zoals in Julius Caesar (1970) en Anthony and Cleopatra (1972). Heston schuwt echter ook geheel anderssoortige rollen niet, zo speelde hij een hoofdrol in de sciencefiction films Planet of the Apes (1968) en Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970).

In 1997 werd Heston vice-president, en daarna president van de National Rifle Association. Hij is sinds 1944 getrouwd, en heeft twee kinderen.
