Robert De Niro (New York, 17 augustus 1943) is een Amerikaans acteur. Hij speelt vaak in films die zijn geregisseerd door Martin Scorsese. Naast een aantal nominaties won hij een Oscar voor beste bijrol in The Godfather II (1974) en beste acteur in Raging Bull (1980). Hij wordt gezien als een van de beste acteurs van zijn generatie.


Levensloop
Robert De Niro zag het levenslicht in de New Yorkse wijk Greenwich Village op 17 augustus 1943, als zoon van het schilderskoppel Robert De Niro en Virginia Admiral. De Niro (jr.) volgde een toneelopleiding aan het Stella Adler Conservatory en maakt vervolgens in 1966 zijn filmdebuut in The Wedding Party. Dankzij films van regisseur Martin Scorsese als Mean streets , Taxi Driver (1976), New York, New York (1977) en Raging Bull (1980) werd De Niro een van de meest succesvolle acteurs van de jaren zeventig.

In de negentiger jaren bewees De Niro dat hij meer in petto had. Hij ontplooide zijn komisch talent met films als Mistress (1992) en Mad Dog and Glory (1993). Met zijn productiebedrijf Tribeca produceerde De Niro A Bronx Tale (1993, De Niro’s productiedebuut), Marvin’s Room (1996) en vele anderen.

In 2003 mocht De Niro de Lifetime Achievement Award in ontvangst nemen voor zijn complete oeuvre.
